At Blackdown Financial we trace our roots back to the late 1970s when our current Managing Director Lee Tomkins' family started the original company in the Blackdown hills.

We want our clients to be financially independent, to be able to enjoy life, to pursue goals and dreams, safe and secure in the knowledge they have someone to turn to and rely on.  This is what drives us to be the best we can be.
 
We are very proud to be Independent Financial Advisers and for us independence is not just a word it is a state of mind.
  • It’s about sitting on the same side of the table as our client, surveying the whole market and choosing the most appropriate solutions.
  • It’s about considering existing financial products (pensions, investments, mortgages, life assurance, etc) by analysing and making recommendations as to whether they should be kept or replaced.  We adopt a view that existing products are suitable unless we can demonstrate otherwise.
  • It’s about being open minded to new developments from across the market and considering whether to recommend these. 

We are not a large, faceless institution, we believe in providing personal one to one advice.  Having five advisers and  a strong support team means we are big enough to provide excellent support, yet small enough to really get to know our clients and provide a personal, bespoke service.

My wife and I were 1st time buyers. David and his colleagues removed a lot of stress and provided much needed experience to the process. He was able to provide insight and advice for all areas of house buying, and we often used him as a sounding board. David was always honest with regards to his fees/commission and also not afraid to dissuade us from ideas that he didn't believe were the best option - although we never felt pressurised or subject to a hard sell. David was able to find mortgage deals that we were not, with better rates, and explain the pros and cons of each option. He was always careful to make sure we understood what he was telling us, without using blinding us with numbers and technical language. David also ensured that we were able to afford the options in the long term, exploring potential changes to income and circumstances that would affect us. When we had submitted the paperwork for the mortgage and subsequent life insurance/income protection, David and his team were invaluable for chasing the other parties, solving issues (of which there were quite a few!) and generally took a large portion of stress away from us. I would thoroughly recommend using David and his company.

Others may be cheaper, I have not found better.
